Introduction

This lesson is designed to help students master the mathematical concept of percentages at the Grade 7 level.

The learning theory being used is a combination of Behaviorism and Cognitivism. Behaviorism assumes that each student's brain is a blank slate and as such, learning is promoted based on repitition and positive reinforcement. Cognitivism is a learning theory which focuses on cognitive processes such as thinking, problem solving, language, concept formation and information processing (Ertmer & Newby, 2013). Students will be presented with varying scenarios of the same concept whilst applying cognition to enhance memorization and application in problem solving.
Supporters of Behaviorism includes  Pavlov (1897), Watson & Rayner (1920), Thorndike (1905), Skinner (1936) and Bandura (1963). While Cognitivist proponents include Piaget, tolman (1948), Bruner (1960), Kohlberg and Vygotsky.
